Ginger as he appears in The Black Peril
This site is dedicated to Ginger, Biggles' protégé, who first makes his appearance in the series in The Black Peril, as a lad of fifteen or sixteen.
Out of 97 books (including Biggles Does Some Homework) Ginger appears in all except 13 which are set before he arrives on the scene and 4 where he is left behind, either because he is susceptible to fever, because he loses the toss or because Biggles appears to want a change of companion.
Over the span of books we see Ginger get his tickets and slowly mature from the resourceful child he was when he first met his hero, through an adolescent with a childlike interest in everything new, into a trusted comrade who is Biggles' chosen companion more often than not for the second seat in the cockpit.

gallery and Ginger's biography and add a discussion of his role as Captain Johns' mouthpiece as well as an examination of his unpopularity in certain quarters because of his reputation of being a bit of a smart Alec.
